Illustration of the tiny percentage of signatories of the 2008 Petition Project at the Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine (OISM) who are actual climate scientists. The petition rejects the science behind anthropogenic (human-caused) global warming (AGW), and the only qualification to sign was a Bachelor of Science degree in some technical field, including general engineering, math and computers, biology, and medicine. Using lists of fake experts such as the Oregon Petition or the "skeptic" letter from former NASA employees is one tactic used to sow doubt in the public's mind about the scientific consensus on global warming in order to delay meaningful action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and address climate change (see this article about the PBS Frontline program Climate of Doubt).
