Carbon sequestration
Also: Carbon uptake, CO2 sequestration
When carbon dioxide (CO2) is removed from the atmosphere, it is known as carbon sequestration.
When sequestered, CO2 may change form, so the usual term is "carbon sequestration" rather than "carbon dioxide sequestration". For example, CO2 taken up by the ocean contributes to ocean acidification due to the reaction CO2(aq) + H2O → H+ + HCO3-.
