Link to skeptic rebuttals with short URLs

Posted on 20 February 2011 by John Cook

Sometimes you're in the middle of online discussion, someone throws an old debunked skeptic argument at you and you need to link to a pertinent rebuttal. It can be a hassle tracking down the URL (especially if you need to convert it to a short URL for tweeting). Well, there's now a short, memorable URL for every rebuttal to a skeptic argument on Skeptical Science. So for instance, if someone insists global warming is caused by the sun, just send them to:

http://sks.to/sun

Or if they argue that past climate change proves current warming must be natural, just give them:

http://sks.to/past

Nice and short and in most cases, easy to remember. I'm already using the short URLs myself as a short cut when I wish to go straight to a rebuttal without clicking through all the links. All the short URLs are listed at:

https://skepticalscience.com/shorturls.php

Or for those too lazy to click the link (which is the whole point really), here is the total list of short URLs:

  4. Hey, that's excellent. I often post links to these topics and the short urls make it a lot easier.

  7. This is a terriffic resource! I have been linking to SKS more and more often on my facebook Wall, and get a good response. (I have over 4,000 friends there.) I took the liberty of posting this with a short intro as a Note at Skeptical Science's Quick Guide Toolkit to Global Warming Baloney Numbering the list makes it even more impressive, IMHO. Thanks again.

  8. I've updated the flashcards (link) to use the short URLs - or rather, I created a new set, since new myths&rebuttals have been added since I put up the original set. The new improved set is at: Skeptical Science climate flashcards - short URLs http://www.flashcardexchange.com/flashcards/view/1669772

  9. ...but there's a bug there, you can't copy-paste the URLs. I'll point this out to the proprietors.

  10. - "It's not a bug, it's a feature" (at least that's the gist of the initial response), but "Meanwhile you can select text [e.g., that short URL] in the card list off the edit menu."
